New funding, new communities: Roleplay Project keeps moving

A new wave of funding for the servers, the tools and the people, and the franchise model that lets a community run its own server on the shared platform.

On 13 October, two weeks before the move to Plexa, Roleplay Project announced a new wave of funding. It gives us room to keep building at the pace of the last few months, and to grow well beyond a single city.

Where the money goes

  • The servers. More headroom, better reliability and faster fixes when something goes wrong.
  • The tools behind the scenes. Staff now work from a dedicated staff hub, with training, clear promotion paths and a proper record of everything they do, which means fairer, faster handling of reports and appeals.
  • New systems in the city. The run of updates from the taxi rework and graffiti to the new jobs, banking and policing changes is the pace we intend to keep.
  • The people. The developers, staff and partners who keep it all running.

Franchises and expansions continue

The Balkan server showed what happens when a community gets its own server, its own language and its own team while sharing everything we build. Every fix and every feature made for one city reaches all of them, because they all run on the same platform.

The groundwork to do that at scale was already in place:

  • A partner portal where franchise owners run their own server: restarts and scheduling, server settings, events, community posts, moderation and their own staff.
  • The launcher, a free Windows app with one-click play on every server, your account, notifications while you are tabbed out and the Zombiez arcade built in, in English and Bosnian.
  • The wiki in more languages, starting with a full Bosnian version for Balkan players.

The post also set out plans for new partner communities and talks with other servers. The original has the details as they stood that day.

What it means for players

  • Your city keeps getting better. More communities on one platform means more players reporting bugs, more ideas and more reasons to build.
  • The English server stays at the heart of it. Growth elsewhere means more investment here, not less.
  • The rules and the standard stay the same. Every franchise is held to the same standard for staff and players. Quality comes before size.
